Tribute to a Firefighter

Don Mette

District Vice President

It is with deep sadness that I have to start the article off with a tribute to Firefighter Kevin Printz.  Kevin was a firefighter with Sacramento Fire District who passed away April 30th at the age of 34.  To the people who knew Kevin he will be remembered as one of the nicest guys you knew.  (He and his family has been dealing with another tragedy with the terminal illness of his two-year old son, Forrest.)  Kevin along with Mark Thomsen, another Sacramento County firefighter, built the Union

barbecue trailer.  Kevin will be remembered as a good firefighter and a friend who would help out at the drop of a hat.  Kevin was buried in full firefighter tradition with well over 400 uniformed firefighters in attendance.  In the true spirit of brother- and sisterhood, many firefighters from surrounding departments volunteered to fill-in at Sacramento County stations on the day of the funeral.  In addition to volunteer staffing, engine companies from Sacramento City, American River, Elk Grove

and Roseville were sent to cover stations to allow on-duty Sacramento county personnel to attend services.  As your District Vice President, I thank each of you for helping your brother and sister firefighters.  Now that Kevin is at the Main Station in the Sky, please keep Kevin, his wife Debbie and sons Kyle and Forrest in your thoughts and prayers.
