After Kevin's mother and I divorced in 1976, Kevin and
I lived a bachelor's existence in Rosemont. Merrill had decided to
pursue his Master's degree at CSUS and stayed with us while he was going
to school. While he was living with us, Kevin and he developed quite
a bond. They shared a sense of humor among other things as I was
to find out in spades after Merrill got his degree and left our house to
pursue his dreams.
As I remember it, Merrill's car was all packed and he,
Kevin, and I were standing around saying good-bye. Merrill and Kevin
walked close to each another, looked each other in the eye, and one of
them said something serious like: "Well, it looks like this is it.
We've had some real good times, but now it's time to say good-bye.
I wish you the best." Then one of them extended his hand
and the other extended his hand also. As I looked on, I was really
touched since I felt the two of them had formed a bond while Merrill was
living with us. I was even getting a little choked up. Then
they both started shaking their whole bodies uncontrollably like a couple
of spastics. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen and I didn't
know whether to laugh or cry. GREAT MOMENT - THEY REALLY GOT ME!
Note: Merrill discusses working
on this with Kevin.
